    Dear Jim,

Thank you for submitting UA R7, Calling for Implementation of an Open Course Evaluation Working Group. I appreciate the University Assembly’s consideration of course evaluation practices at Cornell and, as reflected in the resolution, the Student Assembly’s close attention to this matter. I am pleased to acknowledge progress toward realizing the resolution’s goal.

Interim Provost Harry Katz invited Student Assembly member Joseph Fridman to speak with the academic deans on April 14, 2015. During that session, Joseph presented his rationale for open course syllabi and course evaluations across all of Cornell’s undergraduate colleges. The deans seemed favorably impressed, especially with the notion of open syllabi, and somewhat sympathetic to creating an open course evaluation system on a common platform. Joseph is going to send his timeline for next steps to Interim Provost Katz, who agreed to speak with the deans at their next meeting to develop a plan regarding the creation of a working group that would determine how a common platform for course syllabi and course evaluations could look.

Thank you for your leadership on this aspect of the educational experience at Cornell.

    Regards,

    David Skorton
