Dr. Shivaun Archer is the John and Janet Swanson Senior Lecturer in the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering as well the Director of Undergraduate Studies for Biomedical Engineering. She received her BS and M.Eng. from Cambridge University, England and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Archer designs and teaches lab courses covering nanobiotechnology, cellular, molecular, and tissue engineering, as well as physiology. Dr. Archer is also a Faculty Teaching Fellow in the James McCormick Family Teaching Excellence Institute (MTEI). As part of the MTEI Teaching Fellow duties, Dr. Archer provides educational support for faculty members in the College of Engineering with the aim to enhance students' learning and performance, particularly in lab instruction and group work. In recognition of her efforts in undergraduate education, Dr. Archer has received three prestigious College of Engineering Teaching awards, the Kendall S. Carpenter Memorial Advising award, and in 2024 she received the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), St. Lawrence Division Outstanding Teacher Award. She has also been a recipient of the Zellman Warhaft Commitment to Diversity Award and the Academic Achievement Award from the Cornell Engineering Alumni Association. Dr Archer was inducted as a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) for her contributions to instructional labs.

Candidate Statement:

   I am running for Faculty Senator to advocate for student well-being, academic success, and faculty engagement. With experience serving on education based college and university committees, I have worked to improve the student experience and ensure academic policies support excellence and inclusivity.
   My teaching philosophy emphasizes hands-on, real-world learning that empowers students to take ownership of their education and develop critical problem-solving skills. Beyond the classroom, I am committed to fostering a dynamic academic environment that supports both students and faculty.
   I am eager to deepen my understanding of university policies and address the challenges faced by faculty, students, and staff. Effective governance requires collaboration across disciplines and institutions. By ensuring all voices are heard, I aim to contribute to informed policy and meaningful improvements. As a Faculty Senator, I will approach university affairs with sound judgment and a focus on strengthening faculty participation in governance. My goal is to build a stronger academic community and advocate for policies that reflect our shared values. I look forward to bringing my experience to the Faculty Senate and representing the diverse interests of our faculty and students.
