UA R10 (2014-2015): Acknowledged by the President

Dear Jim,

Thank you for sharing with me the University Assembly’s Resolution 9, which amends the Assembly Bylaws to assign responsibility to the Codes and Judicial Committee for review of proposed motions related to the creation, maintenance and availability of a Community Bill of Rights. While my formal acceptance of the resolution is not required, I join the Assembly in recognizing the importance of campus-wide access to clear, consistent articulation of community members’ rights and responsibilities that are established by university policies.

UA R8 (2014-2015): Conveyed to the President

Dear President Skorton,

It is with pleasure that I notify you of UA Resolution 8 REVISED, "Updating the Charter of the Campus Planning Committee in the University Assembly Bylaws."

This Resolution was sponsored by Mr. Ned La Cell, the Assembly's Campus Planning Committee Liaison, and passed at our meeting of May 5, 2015.

The Campus Planning Committee (CPC) is an Associated Committee of the University Assembly. Per Assembly Bylaw §5.1.1, "Both the Assembly and the responsible administrative unit must approve changes to the charges of associated committees."

SA R56 (2014-2015): Acknowledged by the President

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing Resolution 56: Hands-Only CPR Training for Freshmen. I agree that this is an important life skill, and am pleased that you are in conversation with the Faculty Advisory Committee on Athletics and Physical Education.

I also understand that you are working on pilot training in the fall with the Physical Education department. This will be an important step in understanding the capacity of both the administration and Cornell EMS to manage such an educational mission, which of course only will be administered by certified instructors.

SA R54 (2014-2015): Acknowledged by the President

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing the fall 2015 Election Rules with me, through Resolution 54. While I see no issues with the changes made, I would like to point out one correction. I believe that under Eligibility Requirements, the numbering may have been mistakenly changed when the footnote was added, and that the requirement “Be eligible to vote in the election for the seat…” (line 70) should be number one, rather than unnumbered.

Regards,

David Skorton

SA R60 (2014-2015): Accepted by the President

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing Resolution 59: SA Bylaw Changes. While I have no issues with the establishment of these committees, I hope that they plan to operate in conjunction with the campus departments with which they correspond. I approve this resolution.

I encourage the Academic Affairs Committee to connect with the Provost as well as the Dean of the Faculty and Dean of Students. I also would encourage the City and Local Affairs Committee to connect with the Office of Community Relations.
