  • Summary / Notes:

    Dear Zora,

Thank you for conveying  SA Resolution 11: Addressing Obstructed Ramps and Handicap Aisles on Campus.

We share your concern regarding the obstruction of ramps and railings by improperly parked bicycles and scooters. Parking or storing these devices outside of designated areas poses life safety risks and creates accessibility barriers for members of our community.

Transportation Services, the Cornell University Police Department, the Facilities and Campus Services ADA Coordinator, and Environment, Health, and Safety are working collaboratively to address these concerns. Current efforts include the removal and impoundment of bicycles and scooters parked on and attached to railings, ramps, or other non-designated locations, in accordance with the Cornell University Parking Rules and Regulations.

To improve compliance and accessibility, additional bicycle racks are being installed in high-demand areas, and new educational messaging is being developed. The use of temporary signage is under consideration to provide timely, visible reminders while minimizing the cost and delay associated with permanent signage. These temporary signs will support deterrence and help educate the campus community about proper parking practices.

We appreciate the Student Assembly’s partnership and advocacy on this important accessibility and safety issue.

    Sincerely,
