Dear Zora,
Thank you for conveying Resolution 72: Alleviating Preliminary Examination Overloads. I am referring this resolution and the concerns raised therein to the Faculty Senate’s Education Policy Committee for further consideration in the 2026-2027 academic year.
I also note for the Assembly’s consideration that mirroring the policy for final exams, which are coordinated through the Registrar’s Office, would likely not be possible for preliminary exams, which are not coordinated by the Registrar’s Office. Cornell’s Faculty Handbook outlines a policy for assisting students in finding another test time when a faculty member schedules an evening preliminary exam outside of usual course hours.
Sincerely,
Michael Kotlikoff
