GPSA R9 (2015-2016): Acknowledged by the President
Dear Nate,
Thank you for the copy of GPSA Resolution 9: Resolution Concerning Graduate Student Lecturers and Clarity of Admission Letters. The call for greater transparency in both admission letters and summer appointments is very reasonable. While graduate student loan data show that very few research-degree students are incurring significant educational debt associated with their Cornell enrollment, it is clear that students need accurate, timely information to develop their budgets.

Dear Richard:
Thank you for conveying to me GPSA Resolution 7 regarding supervisor-student relationships. Your efforts complement extensive discussions by Cornell’s Faculty Senate over the past year on this topic. Professor Michael Fontaine, acting dean of the University Faculty, has referred GPSA Resolution 7 to the Faculty Senate’s Committee on Academic Freedom and Professional Status (AFPS), which is chaired by Professor Elizabeth Adkins-Regan. I anticipate that the committee will consider and respond thoughtfully to the points you have raised.
