SA R59 (2019-2020): Acknowledged by the President

Dear Joe,   Thank you for conveying to me Resolution 59: Support of the Universal S/U Grading System for the Remainder of the Spring 2020 Semester.   I appreciate the concern the Student Assembly expressed about the impact of COVID-19 on students and the assembly’s desire to alleviate stress by adopting a universal S/U grading policy for the semester.

GPSA R12 (2019-2020): Acknowledged by the President

Dear Andy,   Thank you for conveying to me GPSA Resolution 12: An S20 Commitment to Academic Integrity, Equitable Instruction, Trust, and Respect. I am acknowledging the GPSA’s endorsement of the pending University Faculty Senate Committee legislation titled “An S20 Commitment to Academic Integrity, Equitable Instruction, Trust, and Respect.”   I appreciate the consideration of this topic given your membership’s unique perspective as both students and as teaching assistants who directly support instruction.   Sincerely, Martha Pollack   Martha E.

Dear Andy, Thank you for submitting Graduate and Professional Student Assembly Resolution 6, “Support of the Divestment from Fossil Fuels,” for my consideration. With the University Assembly, Employee Assembly, Student Assembly, and Faculty Senate all joining with the GPSA in passing fossil fuel divestment resolutions, I will submit all of the resolutions to the Board’s Executive and Investment Committees, with notification to the full board. Please note, however, that at the present time the board and the administration are focused almost exclusively on managing the current emergency s

Dear Joe, I offer my sincere thanks to the Student Assembly for your support of the Access Fund during this critical time of need. The Student Assembly’s donation helped us support more than 1,000 low-income students by assisting them with travel, technology, and other needs to support their virtual learning. I am so appreciative of, and grateful for, your generosity. I hope you are well, and please take care of yourself. Sincerely, Martha Pollack   Martha E.

Dear Adam, Thank you for submitting Employee Assembly Resolution 5, “Support of the Divestment from Fossil Fuels,” for my consideration. As you know, the Board of Trustees has delineated a process for considering divestment proposals. While the process affords the president the opportunity to send any assembly-passed divestment resolution to the board for consideration, I believe it is appropriate that all five of Cornell’s representative bodies have a say on a matter as consequential as fossil-fuel divestment.

Dear Joe, Thank you for conveying to me Student Assembly Resolution 22: Establishing an Equitable Event Registry System for Cooperative Houses. In response to this resolution, I am asking the Housing & Residential Life team to work with officers from our eight cooperative residences for a thorough review of event policies in those houses, as well as City of Ithaca Fire Code, assembly inspections, liability insurance requirements, and what possibilities, if any, might exist for creating a system for registering and hosting events in those buildings.

GPSA R8 (2013-2014): Acknowledged by the President

Dear Monet:   I am pleased to have an opportunity to respond to your email of February 12 enclosing GPSA Resolutions 7, 8 and 9.  The GPSA has raised a number of weighty and complex issues.  I will take each in turn.   Resolution 7: A Resolution to Amend the Bylaws Concerning GPSA External Committee Appointments reflects the careful and thoughtful administrative leadership demonstrated by the GPSA this year.  I am supportive of the principles addressed in this resolution.  Before I approve it, however, I am asking GPSA to correct two minor issues.  First,
