UA R6 (2014-2015): Other Communication

Dear Jim,

Thank you for writing to me. President-elect Elizabeth Garrett and the Board of Trustees’ Chair Robert Harrison and Investment Committee Chair Donald Opatrny reviewed and approved my response to UA Resolution 6 in advance of its submission to the Assembly.

UA R6 (2014-2015): Other Communication

Dear President Skorton,

While your response to Resolution 6 is not surprising, on behalf of the Assembly, we are still disappointed.

Although your decision is clear, since the Resolution's requested actions were for the Board of Trustee's, would you confirm Resolution 6 was sent to Investment Chair Opatrny or other appropriate Trustee(s). If not, we would request that Resolution 6 along with your response be submitted to Investment Chair Opatrny for the Investment Committee's awareness.

UA R6 (2014-2015): Returned by the President

Dear Matthew,

Thank you for submitting the University Assembly’s Resolution 6, Divestment from Companies Producing Fossil Fuels and Holding Fossil Fuel Reserves. I respect and share the Assembly’s commitment to the well-being of our planet and its populations, as reflected in the resolution.

UA R13 (2014-2015): Accepted by the President

Dear Jim,

Thank you for conveying UA Resolution 13 – Recognition of Outstanding Support to the AY 2015 Legislative Session. I accept this resolution in its entirety.

The resolution’s overview of support reflects an impressive record of work carried out by the Assembly that covers an unusually broad set of concerns related to the welfare of the university, our campus community and the world beyond our campus.

SA R68 (2014-2015): Accepted by the President

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing Resolution 68: Call for a Voting Space on the Cornell Campus. I support the voting guide and registration forms initiative, provided the guide has inputs and buy-in from other active student political party organizations during any given year, and that the Willard Straight Hall Student Union Board is in agreement. The Office of Community Relations in 110 Day Hall also provides voter registration forms on a year-round basis, reflecting Cornell’s obligation under the Higher Education Act to provide voter registration materials.

SA R69 (2014-2015): Acknowledged by the President

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing Resolution 69: Clarifying and Expanding the use of the Students Helping Students Fund. I appreciate your work to formalize your policies and practices. It is an important step, especially during a time of transition.

Regards,

David Skorton

SA R72 (2014-2015): Accepted by the President

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing Resolution 72: Enhancing Hearing Impairment Service at the Cornell Commencement Ceremony. I understand that you have been in touch with administrators to discuss these recommendations, and that they are willing to work with you to develop a survey. Please be sure that the Accessibility Accommodation Committee works closely on this endeavor with Connie Mabry, Katherine Fahey, and Jennifer Davis.

I appreciate the Student Assembly’s attempt to improve information about the accessibility options for commencement weekend.

Regards,

SA R74 (2014-2015): Accepted by the President

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing the Student Assembly’s recommendation that Cornell adopt the Big Red Bear as the university’s official mascot. As I said in my response last year, I am supportive of this recommendation, will share it with President-elect Garrett and the University Counsel’s Office, who can assist with getting this on the agenda for the Board of Trustees to review and vote.

SA R73 (2014-2015): Returned by the President

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for sharing Resolution 73: Annual United Student Body Update. I appreciate the Student Assembly’s ongoing efforts to promote diversity on the Cornell campus, and am pleased to see that the United Student Body will be reviewed annually.
