Dear Richard,
Graduate teaching and research Assistants are integral to every great research university. Assistantships not only provide a means to fund student scholarship, they help create the immersive experience that is so core to our graduate education model. I firmly believe that assistantship stipend rates must be both fair and competitive for Cornell to attract and retain the very best students, and also as a matter of moral principle.

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for sharing Resolution 16, Recommendations Concerning Study Week, with me. As I stated in my response to Resolution 9, it is important that the Student Assembly continue its work with the Office of the University Registrar and the Faculty Senate, and I am glad that you are taking the initiative to do so. I understand that your recommendation regarding changes to study week are being considered seriously by those able to make any changes. The more fundamental concerns regarding the calendar will need to wait until the official three year review in 2017.

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for sharing the Student Assembly’s concerns regarding the lighting and walkway quality of Libe Slope with me. The SA is working with the appropriate offices to discuss this issue, but in the meantime, I would like to remind students that the Cornell University Police Department offers a Blue Light Escort service for anyone who feels unsafe walking on campus.
I look forward to seeing the results of your collaboration with Facilities and Crime Prevention.

David
