Dear President Garrett,

I would like to convey Resolution 27: Ending Bottled Water Sales on Cornell Campus to you. This resolution was sponsored by Emma Johnston (Executive Vice President), Emily Dong (Environmental Committee Chair), and student organization including the Cornell Environmental Collective [ECO], Take Back the Tap, KyotoNOW!, and the Society for Natural Resource Conservation.

The resolution aims to gradually end the purchase, sale, and distribution of bottled water on Cornell University's campus and at sanctioned events including a significant tax-based phase-out for at least one year, and a strategic marketing campaign of the tax and then the bottle phase-out. The Cornell currently sends 80% of its bottles to landfills, which releases 112,000 Kilograms of CO2 per year. The campus in all also spent $640,000 purchasing water last year. The sponsors of the resolution discussed working closely with Dining and Café managers to discuss how to remove water bottles from campus. The group that convened hoped to phase out bottles through education and by offering better water filling stations.

Thank you for the time and consideration.

Kind regards,
Juliana
